On the Players I Would Love To See in England

As a result of Liverpool crashing out of Europe earlier today, I started thinking about who they need to improve their sputtering side.  Then, I remembered that I want this blog to attract a wide range of fans, so I started to think about the players I would like at Liverpool, but also would like to see play regularly in England for another team.

This may sound like I am playing a little Championship Manager, but respected websites with actual followers can do it, then why can't I?  The following are 10 players that I would love to see play in England.  Certain players will not be included due to the complete unlikelihood of them never, ever, EVER coming to the Premier League (Leo Messi for example).

Top Row L to R - Gourcuff, Barrios, Mertesacker, Dzsudzsak, Ozil
Bottom Row L to R - Sanchez, Aguero, Gomez, Ribery, Sneijder

10.  Yoann Gourcuff (Olympique Lyonnais) - The French attacking midfielder is a playmaker of real quality.  Considered by many as the best French player of his generation, his playing ability and style have drawn comparisons to football legend Zinedine Zidane.  And while he was a flop at Milan and part of the disastrous French 2010 World Cup Team, the 24-year old has been nothing but fantastic at Lyon.

Potential Cost: €18,000,000 to 20,000,000
Potential Destinations:   Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur

9.    Lucas Barrios (Borussia Dortmund) - La Pantera (the Panther) has only recently taken the world by fire since his transfer from Chilean giants Colo-Colo to current Bundesliga table-toppers Borussia Dortmund in 2009, but the fiery Paraguayan has gone on to score 35 goals in 65 games for the club, as well as an impressive hard-working display in South Africa.  A bit of a late bloomer, will offer any club the opportunity at more of a cut-rate price.

Potential Cost: £12,000,000 to £15,000,000
Potential Destinations: Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Liverpool

8.    Per Mertesacker (Werder Bremen) - His intimidating size and penchant for scoring headers from set-pieces has made Mertesacker one of the best centre-backs in Europe.  At only 26, he still has many years to come and could offer a team looking for a menacing centre-back a guaranteed stalwart.

Potential Cost: £10,000,000 to £12,000,000
Potential Destinations: Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa

7.    Balazs Dzsudzsak (PSV Eindhoven) - The high-flying Hungarian winger is a big reason why PSV Eindhoven is scoring for fun in the Eredivisie.  Between his speed and his control both on and off the ball and a stinging left foot, he could easily become yet another successful import from the Eredivisie.

Potential Cost: £11,500,000 to £13,500,000
Potential Destinations: Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City

6.    Mesut Ozil (Real Madrid) - Nicknamed the German Messi or the German Zidane, Mesut Ozil made the world stand up and take notice after his amazing display in South Africa last summer.  His display earned him a nomination for the Golden Ball and a big-money transfer to Real Madrid.  Unlikely to come to England soon, he would take British Isles by storm.

Potential Cost: £25,000,000 to £30,000,000
Potential Destinations: Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City

5.    Alexis Sanchez (Udinese) - Commonly used as a striker, but just as effective as a winger or attacking midfielder, El Nino Maravilla has come along way since he left Chile to join Serie A.  Scoring some fantastic highlight-reel worthy goals, the 22-year-old has quickly become one of the most sought-after strikers, especially since his club are less glamorous than his suitors.

Potential Cost: £14,000,000 to £18,000,000
Potential Destinations: Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool

4.    Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid) - He may live in the shadow of his father-in-law, but Sergio "Kun" Aguero has proven that he is not just another Argentine striker.  His mazy runs and bullet-kick have earned him the love and adoration of El Atleti faithful, and while he only just recently signed a new contract, he would be a welcome addition to any English team - and some have tried hard to land him.

Potential Cost: £35,000,000 to £40,000,000
Potential Destinations: Chelsea, Manchester City

3.    Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich) - The 2007 German Footballer of the Year seemed to be on his way out of Bayern Munich at the beginning of 10-11, Gomez has decided to prove his worth by knocking in a staggering 29 goals in 37 games this season.  Scoring like it is going out of style, it may be Bayern Munich who is on their way out for Gomez.

Potential Cost: £25,000,000 to £30,000,000
Potential Destinations: Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur

2.    Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich) - "The Jewel of French Football", Franck Ribery has always been apart of success (except if you include South Africa 2010).  And while his personal life is "spotty" to say the least, nobody can argue he is one of the best players in the world. The winner of numerous personal awards, the man is set for a switch in the near future and the top clubs in England could snap him up quickly - though not for cheap

Potential Cost: £45,000,000 to £50,000,000
Potential Destinations: Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal

1.    Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan) - What can you say about a player whose influence is immense and yet, somehow, is so underrated.  Discarded from Real Madrid, Sneijder's talent led Inter Milan to an historic treble in 2010, and then Netherlands to the World Cup Final - and yet, he was overlooked for FIFA Player of the Year.  Take comfort, Wes, you've earned my blog's first award - The #1 Player I would love to see play in England...preferably for Liverpool.

Potential Cost: £40,000,000 to £45,000,000

  1. I can't comprehend why you would think Tottenham are interested in signing a striker or defender. Their current priority is clearly to fill the huge gap in midfield.
